Clay lamps, oil, cotton wicks, turmeric, flour, 2005
This installation was in memory of those who died in three simultaneous bomb blasts on October 29, in New Delhi, India. The blasts took place in two bustling bazars on the eve of Diwali, one of the biggest Hindu festivals, killing 60 innocent people shopping for the festival. The festival is celeberated by lighting rows of oil lamps made of clay. The lamps are lit so that the blinding darkness of ignorance , greed, jealousy and hatred would be dispelled and the radiance of knowledge, peace and friendship would prevail.
There were 60 clay lamps in this installation, one for each one of those killed.
