FROM FAMILIAR TO UNFAMILIAR (Graphic Design Thesis)
Book Design, Coptic Single Sheet Binding, Clamshell Box

The area of investigation for my thesis was Culture Shock: the sense of confusion and hopelessness that sets in from being far away from everything familiar. As an international student from India, I found myself feeling uprooted and struggling to relate to American culture in the initial years of my study here. My thesis was in response to this struggle to make sense of the two cultural frames of references, so starkly different from each other. My objective was to design a book that would focus on the challenges an international student would face while adjusting to a new cultural milieu.

This book is now in the collection of John Wilson Rare Books Room at Multnomah Central Library, Charles Voorhies Library at Pacific Northwest College of Art and in the president's personal art collection at Pacific Northwest College of Art.
